Hypotonic, Isotonic, Hypertonic - What's the Difference between these energy drinks?

Energy drinks? I'm confused!

Water is an excellent fluid replacer. After all, this is mostly what you are losing in sweat, so that is what your body needs. Commercial sports drinks contain small amounts of sugars and minerals called electrolytes. These, at low concentrations, can speed up water absorption. They are unlikely to be of any benefit unless you are exercising for at least two hours.

Hypotonic drinks are less concentrated than your body's fluids. That is, they have fewer dissolved particles per 100ml. They are designed to be absorbed more rapidly than water, and therefore achieve faster rehydration.

Isotonic drinks have the same concentration of dissolved particles as your body fluids. They will be absorbed either at the same speed as water or slightly faster, depending on exercise conditions.

Hypertonic drinks, on the other hand, are more concentrated than body fluids and will be absorbed less quickly into your body.
